Every week, Your New Favorite Playlist introduces you to workout-worthy tunes from a different fitness brand. This week, The Class shares one of its recent playlists.
You know that moment in your workout or your run when you’ve hit a wall and you feel like you just can’t go any faster or harder? The Class wants to help you learn how to push past it. “It’s calisthenics and cardio bursts with a bit of a boot camp flair,” says Natalie Kuhn, instructor and director of operations at The Class. “But what really makes it different from other classes is that the real work is about addressing your habitual response to intensity. … We offer you this space to check in with yourself on a very intimate level within the security of a community.”
The class is as much about your mental approach as your physical one; so when the burpees or mountain climbers you’re doing start feeling next to impossible, an instructor might say something like, “Talk to the part of you that’s saying, ‘No, I can’t, I won’t, I’m going to stop.’ Press up against that wall, and then put that on the fire and come up and over it.” The end result is a crazy vigorous and crazy uplifting body-weight workout.
Music plays a key role in keeping students motivated throughout their workout sessions. “The songs that we choose tend to have a build to them, a momentum to them,” says Kuhn. “It mimics the intensity that you’re feeling in the body.” Here’s the mix from a recent class:
