From clearing your mind to prepping your body for eight hours of sitting, kicking off your morning with a little time to stretch and focus on yourself is so worth 15 minutes or so.As a yoga instructor, I know how big of an impact meditation and a few yoga poses first thing in the morning can have on your day.
I’ve been an anxious person most of my life, and I turned to yoga to help me de-stress and clear my head. But when I sustained an injury that kept me from practicing, I had to learn to use meditation to get those benefits. Now that I’ve recovered, I still use meditation in conjunction with yoga to start my day.

I start by focusing on my breathing and move into a few simple yoga postures that gently stretch out my hamstrings, hips, and back. Doing this workout every morning is like taking vitamins for my brain. It helps me be in the moment, stop worrying about expectations, and set the tone for everything that follows.
These six moves are my go-to’s and are meant to help calm and revitalize. If you think your mind and body could use some extra love while doing this routine, feel free to hold each stretch longer than the recommended time. Also, it’s completely normal to feel a little uncomfortable or tight during these poses—as long as it’s not in your joints—so try to concentrate on our breath if you’re feeling tense.
The workout: Do each of the moves below, in order, for the recommended amount of time, without resting between exercises.
