When you’ve just got to get moving, sometimes there’s not a treadmill or even a running path available for you to hop on. So what’s a sweat-session junkie to do? We asked our favorite trainers and super fit friends for the times that they just had to get their endorphin fix and how they got it. Here, the weirdest yet kind of genius places they’ve worked out.

“When I was 16, living on my parents’ farm, I wanted to gain muscle and get stronger, so I lifted bales of hay and threw them in a clean and press type of motion. Afterward, I’d take a broom stick and slide it through holes in concrete blocks, the ones used in foundation of houses, and would do curls with it. “When I was in my mid-twenties, I went to Las Vegas with a bunch of friends. I got in sick shape for the trip. I literally had a six-pack and didn’t want to lose it while I was there. “After more than a dozen firefighters died in an accident in my city, some trainers and I decided to dedicate a workout to them. Unfortunately, I was out of town the day we decided to do it. I was driving with my brother when I suddenly got really inspired to do a workout dedicated to them right then and there. I asked my brother to sit in the truck and put it in neutral while I pushed it back and forth for each firefighter who died. “I was working late one night and needed to work out, so I decided to improvise. I shut my office door and did a strength-training circuit in my office. I ran through squat to overhead press, front raises, reverse lunges, pushup-position rows, and dumbbell drags in about 20 minutes.
