“We integrate strength training with explosive cardio and offer our members and the obstacle-race community a place to work on their apparatus skills,” says Julia Falamus, program director and coach at Epic Hybrid Training. “Our philosophy is all about developing the whole athlete, from total-body strength, power, and agility to mental stamina. Our motto to all classes is, ‘conquering obstacles, empowering fitness.'” In other words, it’s the place you go when you want to feel like a badass.
Part of the appeal of obstacle-course races is that you don’t do things like swing yourself through the air or run with heavy sandbags every day. But…you do if you’re a regular at Epic Hybrid Training in New York City.
As you might imagine, the playlists are pretty much the epitome of hype-up tunes. “All of our classes really demand high-energy music,” says Falamus. “I look for songs that are current, popular, and get people moving.” Here’s the mix she’s loved using lately during the studio’s “Blast” class, “our fastest-paced, most cardio-intensive class.” (Check them out below, then download them on Spotify.)
